The school year is in full swing and so are the first Moral Focus™ lessons!
Moral Focus virtues build strong foundations of character that will guide students for years to come. They’re learning skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
For September, the spotlight is on Wisdom, using knowledge and good judgment to make choices that lead to positive outcomes. Across National Heritage Academies (NHA®) schools, students are already embracing this virtue in creative and meaningful ways, and it’s been fun to see it in action in the classroom.

Cross Creek Charter Academy kicked off the month of Wisdom with an assembly and a special visit from Sarah McCormick, the author of the Moral Focus books! She spoke with students about Wisdom and made time to take a few photos!

At Summerfield Charter Academy in North Carolina, Kindergarten teacher Paz Noel kicked of the Moral Focus virtue by introducing Ollie the Owl to her class. Mrs. Noel read Ollie’s story to the class while holding Ollie, and students got a chance to interact with their adorable new friend.

Third-graders at Ridge Park Charter Academy in Michigan created art for their classroom for their lesson on Wisdom. Students wrote examples of wise decisions on colorful feathers, then added them to an Owl Anchor Chart. The project became a daily reminder of how small choices can show big wisdom.

At our newest school in Colorado, Capstone Academy second-grader Farwa Hassan proudly shared the owl she created during her first Moral Focus lesson. The smile on her face said it all; Wisdom isn’t just a word on a page, it’s something our students can see, create, and live out.

Second-graders at Capstone learn that Wisdom is more than just word on the page.
These are just a few examples of how students across NHA are learning Moral Focus virtues. We’d love to see how you’re teaching Moral Focus in your classrooms!
