This Employee Spotlight series celebrates NHA’s 30th anniversary during the 2025-26 academic year and honors those whose dedication, leadership, and Moral Focus™ values have shaped our schools.
When National Heritage Academies® (NHA) opened its first school 30 years ago, safety systems looked very different than they do today. Technology has evolved. Buildings have grown. The network has expanded across nine states.
Jeff Dorman has seen that evolution up close.
As a Safety Systems Specialist, Jeff’s work now spans dozens of schools but his journey with NHA is about more than cameras and access control panels. It’s about growth, both personal and organizational.
“I’ve been able to grow along with NHA. As the organization expanded, so did the systems, the expectations, and my role.”
Growing With the Organization
Early on, safety systems were simpler. Today, schools rely on layered technology, secure entry points, advanced camera systems, remote monitoring capabilities, and integrated tools designed to prevent incidents before they happen.
Jeff has been part of building that evolution.
“You learn something new at almost every school. Every building is different. Every leadership team has different needs. You need to stay adaptable.”
That adaptability has shaped Jeff’s career. What began as technical work has developed into a role that requires communication, collaboration, and strategic thinking.

More Than a Job
For Jeff, safety is not just about equipment. It’s about people.
“When you walk into a school, you see the kids in the hallway, teachers in their classrooms, parents coming in for events. It reminds you why the work matters.”
Behind every system he installs or maintains is a larger purpose, creating an environment where students feel secure and staff feel supported. That sense of responsibility has only deepened over time.
“I take pride in knowing that what I do helps schools run smoothly. If everything works the way it should, leaders can focus on academics. That’s the goal.”
A Culture of Prevention
NHA has long emphasized addressing concerns before they become crises. Jeff’s role fits within that philosophy.
“When systems are proactive instead of reactive, that’s when you know you’re doing it right.”
Over the years, he has partnered closely with school leaders and team members, building relationships that strengthen each campus. The work requires both technical expertise and trust.
“You’re not just installing equipment. You’re supporting a school community.”

Jeff and Beth Dorman vacation with Kari and Ryan Avery.
Looking Back and Forward
For Jeff Dorman, years of steady commitment to protecting what matters most is what makes NHA schools feel like home.
“It’s rewarding to look back and see how far we’ve come,” Jeff said. “And it’s exciting to think about where we’re headed.”
