Seniors Provide First Day of School Inspiration for Younger Students

For the second year in a row, Phoenix Academy seniors visited the elementary and middle school buildings to write inspiring messages and create works of chalk art to bring a smile to the faces of the young students on their first day of school.

“Several of them had not been back to either campus since they were in those lower grades, and they reminisced about how it felt to be there and how strange it was to be almost done with school,” Phoenix Academy Admissions Representative Devon Shaver said. “Some discussed who had what teacher, and where their old classrooms were located. Some newer-to-Phoenix seniors enjoyed seeing the campuses for the first time.”

Thirty-five members of the senior class created a colorful hopscotch court on the sidewalk, drew flowers, butterflies, and wrote messages like “Seniors love you!” and “Have a good day!” They also used special markers to draw pictures and messages on windows near the entrances to the buildings.

Shaver was thrilled that so many seniors would take the time to provide a bright moment for so many students, all on the weekend before school started.

“Their selflessness and kindness shone through, and they clearly understood how powerful kind words and cheerful pictures could be in easing those first-day jitters. Thanks to them, not only did our younger students feel encouraged and excited, but their families also felt welcomed and seen.”

After all the chalk art was completed, the seniors made their way back to the high school for their own annual tradition of painting their own parking spots.
