Students in New York City have more than 400 high school options available to them, and National Heritage Academies® school counselors are helping them find the best fit for their futures.
Brooklyn Scholars Charter School and Riverton Street Charter School recently hosted their high school fairs, the second-annual for Riverton, and third-annual for Brooklyn Scholars. Counselors have found their eighth-grade families appreciate the opportunity to speak with some of the many high school options available to them.

Brooklyn Scholars Guidance Counselor Shannon Steward led students on multiple area high school tours earlier in the year, but knew an event which included the students’ families would also make a lasting impression.
“Ms. Steward recognized the value of bringing the schools to us—creating an environment where students could explore options, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversations without ever leaving campus,” Principal Roxanne Thomas said. “Her dedication, organization, and passion for supporting our scholars shined brightly from start to finish. Her commitment to ensuring that every student feels informed, prepared, and empowered is truly unmatched.”

Visiting schools included Brooklyn Emerging Leaders Academy, FDNY High School for Fire and Life Safety, Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School, Christ the King High School, St. Francis Preparatory School, John Adams High School, and Northside Charter High School.
At Riverton Street Charter School, Guidance Counselor Camille Howell invited principals, deans, vice presidents, and school counselors from over 18 different high schools. More than 150 parents and scholars attended the event.

“I was overwhelmed with joy when I saw the influx of scholars and parents in attendance and being well engaged,” Howell said. “There was not a dull moment, as questions and conversations were buzzing all around our school gymnasium. The level of excitement and enthusiasm is inexplicable. It was a phenomenal time!”
Students and families asked important questions regarding the requirements for admission, graduation and success rate, which extracurricular activities are offered, what support services are available to students and their families, and what makes a particular school unique from the others.

Howell said it’s events like these that highlight how Riverton and Brooklyn Scholars are fully invested in the well-being and success of their scholars far beyond their years within the school walls.
“This idea of a flower blooming is very evident when our scholars come back to visit. They have graduated high school or beyond and shared all the wonderful things they have accomplished since leaving Riverton. Being a part of the Riverton community truly gives you a sense of fulfillment and purpose.”
Great work promoting the next steps in education to your scholars, Brooklyn Scholars and Riverton!
