When families approached Principal Cathy Miller to express a need for food, she sprang into action. Envisioning an eventual food pantry at Pathway School of Discovery, she worked with Communities In Schools Site Coordinator Antoine Dorsey, and Achievement and Behavior Specialist Tiffanie Matthews to make that happen.
Now, thanks to donations and grant funding, the school provides food and hygiene products for 30 families twice per month.
“If you go to other pantries, the hygiene products are mostly for one group of people,” Matthews said. “The combs aren’t going to work for everybody. The shampoo and conditioner aren’t going to work for everybody. We made sure our boxes had shampoo and conditioner for everyone.”
