Two Ohio Schools Partner with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company for Kindergarten Workshops

Emerson Academy and North Dayton School of Discovery partnered with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s pre-professional ensemble for an arts-integrated, creative movement workshop that focused on experiential learning.

World-renowned, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company performed for each school’s kindergarten students and conducted a storytelling and movement workshop after the performance. The workshop portion of the event allowed the students to put their best foot forward to try contemporary dance first-hand.

“I have seen what Dayton Contemporary Dance Company does with their world-class dancers and our kids,” said Jim Pierce, admissions representative at Emerson and North Dayton. “It is always a moving and inspirational experience for everyone involved.”

Both performances featured a 45-minute in-school presentation that included an introduction, dance performance, and Q&A session, followed by a movement workshop in the kindergarten classrooms.

“We really enjoyed watching our students interacting and dancing with these incredible professional dancers as one of many supplemental academic learning opportunities that our students enjoy,” said Pierce.
