At National Heritage Academies (NHA®), we believe that strong partnerships between families and schools help students thrive. When parents and teachers work together, students feel supported and are more likely to succeed.
A key part of this partnership is ensuring students are in the classroom each day, ready to learn. Regular attendance plays a crucial role in a child’s success, as even a few missed days can make it harder to keep up with lessons. Our schools are committed to supporting families with attendance by offering resources like before-school programs, transportation assistance, and counseling support.
School leaders understand that parents need flexible options to accommodate their busy schedules. Amanda Main, an attendance liaison at Quest Charter Academy, shares, "One of the things that we offer is before-care that opens up at 6:30 a.m. and after-school care until about 6 p.m. That can really help parents with busy work schedules."
Many schools also offer tutoring, clubs, and sports to keep students engaged. These activities help students feel connected to their school community, making them more excited to attend each day.
For families facing attendance challenges, contacting the school is a great first step. “If parents are having trouble getting their kids to school, they should reach out to us,” Main says. “Sometimes, we notice patterns, and we work with families to find solutions.”
Remember, you’re not in it alone. By talking with your child’s teacher, a counselor, or the attendance office, you can get support and brainstorm ideas for everything from making your morning routine smoother to solving transportation issues. Schools want to partner with families, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help.
