Developing strong reading skills is one of the building blocks for success in education, and it’s something Westfield Charter Academy is focused on.
The school recently held a reading event called Pages in the Park, where teachers and school leaders read to students. Instructional Paraprofessional Stephanie Abramowicz said the topic has been a priority for Westfield this year.
“As a school, we are making literacy our main focus this year because strong reading skills open the door to success in every other subject,” Abramowicz said. “We want to help students build a love for reading early and give families tools to support that growth at home.”
Positive engagement and partnerships with parents are key to that growth, she said. Over 40 families participated, and each child received a free book to take home.
