The Education Technology team at National Heritage Academies (NHA®) has a sparkly new trophy on display. The group was honored as an industry leader with a 1EdTech Community Excellence Award earlier this year.
Headed into its third year as a member of 1EdTech, NHA is contributing knowledge, learning about educational technology trends, and collaborating with colleagues to expand possibilities for students. The organization’s community awards are given to teams that go above and beyond in contributing to the 1EdTech community. Manager of Educational Technology Ryan Avery said 1EdTech membership has benefitted from the community of industry leaders and the professional learning offered.
Through this membership, NHA’s Educational Technology team learned about important factors for accessibility functions on learning tools. With this information, they are able to grade a learning tool’s accessibility features and make recommendations. Avery said this allows students with impairments to leverage learning programs and creates for a safer learning experience.
Another benefit of 1EdTech membership is access to conversation with educational technology vendors and government leaders. Avery said 1EdTech has a set of standards that helps its transfer data more efficiently. With these guidelines, school attendance can be submitted and government agencies can process the information without human intervention.

With members meeting often and connecting about initiatives, Avery’s team speaks with vendors and government officials, allowing for improved partnership and growth. Avery said this relationship building had been valuable.
“This has been a new avenue for some of my team members to flex their social muscles,” Avery said. “It’s been a huge gain for my team as far as spreading their technical wings and understanding how data systems work together.”
As a community leader, NHA has helped some of its vendors connect with 1EdTech, and bringing partners into the fold helps everyone involved improve their technology and provide students a better school day.
The award was presented at 1EdTech’s Learning Impact Conference in Indianapolis, and Educational Technology Analyst Jennifer Sesi was in attendance to receive the honor.
“To be part of something national, that’s pretty cool,” Avery said. “To win an award and have your name recognized, that’s pretty awesome for our team.”

Congratulations, NHA Educational Technology Team! Keep up the great work!
