Families, Local Partners Connect at Winterfield’s Community Pop Up

Winterfield Venture Academy families gathered to connect with their community, have fun, and spend some quality family time together at the school’s Community Pop Up event.

The school, in partnership with local nonprofit Tiny Hearts Remembered, welcomed families to connect with community partners. Vendors set up in the school gymnasium and provided information on their business or program. These 12 vendors included a variety of businesses such as swim school, life insurance and health care, candles, and jewelry.

Admissions Representative Danielle Reddick said the format served as a way to allow connection with community while also highlighting the school.

Families were able to meet with local vendors, who came from various industries such as swim school, health care, and jewelry.

“Here in Toledo, pop-up shops are very common,” Reddick said. “A lot of business owners are looking for a way to share their information. That’s when I can say ‘Hey, we have a pop up here at Winterfield. While you’re here, do you have a student that you’re interested in having attend the school? Do you want a quick tour?’”

There was also plenty of fun to be had for scholars. Easter egg hunts were held for young children (0-6 years old) and older students (7 and up). The playground was also open for scholars to play on during the event.

One of the biggest draws for families was the performances. The Winterfield Step Team and Majorettes both put on a show as well as a local youth dance group, bringing smiles and cheers from everyone in attendance.

Easter egg hunts were set up for kids, with a special appearance from the Easter bunny.

Families were also fed well with the Second Helping food truck by Cherry Street Mission serving up free sandwiches and pasta salad. Reddick said she also handed out vouchers for free kids meals at Texas Roadhouse to each child.

Winterfield staff members were eager to assist with the event, filling Easter eggs with candy in the week leading up to the event. They were also excited to help during the pop up however they could, doing anything from taking photos to dressing up as the Easter bunny. This sort of commitment from staff goes to show why the school has outperformed the local district for four years.

Over 150 people and 50 families attended the event and were able to see the school environment in action, and Reddick said the day sparked interest in the school from both families and community partners.
