Dress Code

A flexible and cost effective dress code has been established at our school to encourage academic success while reducing distractions and competition. Implementing a simple, flexible, cost effective dress code promotes student learning and increased academic instruction time.
 

All Students

  • Shirts must be tucked into pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts at all times.
  • White t-shirts must be worn underneath school shirts. Colored undershirts are not permitted.
  • Cold weather attire may include navy, white, or black solid-colored sweaters or vests or a gray WVA logo fleece.  The fleece must be purchased from the school office.  No stripe or designs are permitted on the sweaters.

  • Closed-toe, flat-sole shoes or tennis shoes only. Shoes that light up or have wheels are not permitted.
  • Belt buckles that are large, display a name, or scroll electronically are not permitted.
  • Extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Hair color must be of natural tones.
  • Head coverings may not be worn unless permitted by the principal.
  • Wearing, carrying, and displaying gang paraphernalia, names, signs, or symbols of gang membership are prohibited.
  • All socks and stockings must be navy blue, black or white.

Boys

All Boys

  • A reasonable number of earrings are permitted. Only ears may be pierced.
  • Earrings must be no larger than a quarter.
  • Purses may not be carried throughout the school day.
  • All bottoms must be either longer than the fingers when the student’s arms hang at her sides or no more than three inches above the knees. Belts must be worn with bottoms that have belt loops.


Grades K-5

  • Students must wear tan or navy blue pants or shorts.
  • Students must wear white or navy blue shirts that have collars (includes mock turtleneck, long- or short-sleeved, cotton or knit).
 

Grades 6-8

  • Students must wear a tie every day with a white or black Oxford button up shirt. Ties must be school appropriate. • Students must wear tan or navy blue pants or shorts with a belt.

Girls

All Girls

  • A reasonable number of earrings are permitted. Only ears may be pierced.

Grades K-5

  • Students must wear navy blue or tan pants, dress Capri pants (no cargo or tight Capri pants permitted), skirts, skorts, or jumpers.
  • Students must wear white or navy blue shirts that have collars (includes mock turtleneck, long- or short-sleeved, cotton or knit).
  •  Makeup is not permitted.
 

Grades 6-8

  • Students are required to wear white or black button-up, blouse shirts with tan or navy blue pants, dress Capri pants (no cargo or tight Capri pants permitted) skirts, skorts, or jumpers. Shirts must be tucked in and only the top collar button may be unbuttoned. Middle school girls have the option of wearing a tie. No polo shirts are permitted.
