Thanks to Operation Warm Coat there will not be any students at Lansing Charter Academy this year who will have to stay indoors during recess this winter.
Every student at Lansing Charter Academy received a free coat on Oct. 8, compliments of Operation Warm Coat, a non-profit company that selects schools each year to receive free jackets. The company manufactures the coats that come in a variety of sizes and colors.
“Coats are expensive,” said Claudia Rogers, social worker at Lansing Charter. “These coats will alleviate a hardship for some families that struggle to buy new coats.”
More than 75 Lake Trust Credit Union employees helped distribute the coats on their day off. They measured the students for sizing and helped students try them on.
“As a parent of three, we were very, very thankful,” said one parent. “Very, very, very thankful. I will say it again.”
