Pathway to High School FAQ

National Heritage Academies (NHA®) operates seven high schools across Michigan and one in North Carolina, along with PrepNet Virtual Academy — a fully online K-12 school offering both live-online and self-paced learning. Below you will find answers to common questions about NHA high schools and the application process.

Ho do I find an NHA high school near me?

Finding an NHA high school is easy — use our school finder to find an NHA school near you and learn more about the programs each school offers.

Do NHA K–8 schools have partnerships with local high schools?

Our K-8 schools only partner with NHA operated high schools. This ensures a smooth, values-aligned transition for students continuing their education with NHA.

When should we start the high school application process?

The best time to apply to high school is during Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment for the 2026-27 school year is now through February 27, 2026.

Open Enrollment is the golden window of time that gives your child the best odds of getting a seat. You can submit an application for an NHA school after Open Enrollment ends, but your child may end up on the waiting list.

Do students from NHA K-8 schools automatically enroll in an NHA high school?

Graduating from an NHA K-8 school does not guarantee you a seat in one of our high schools. All students — including NHA graduates — must submit a high school application.

Who can I contact at my NHA school for high school transition guidance?

Your school’s middle school dean will be a great resource for high school transition support. They will be able to answer your questions, provide guidance, and connect you with the right information for your student’s next step.

Are there high school fairs or information nights for eighth grade families?

Yes! Our high schools host events throughout the year to help families explore programs, meet teachers and staff, and learn about the application process. Check out the high school's calendar to learn about upcoming events.

How does NHA’s curriculum prepare students for high school coursework?

NHA’s curriculum combines rigorous, college-prep academics with personalized instruction and experiential learning. By balancing challenge and support and emphasizing moral character, it prepares students to succeed in high school and beyond.

Does NHA offer guidance or college and career readiness in high school?

Yes! Every NHA high school offers college counseling. Our College Counseling program provides individualized guidance and support to our students as we understand that each student's journey is unique.

Do NHA high schools communicate through the same channels as the K-8 schools (Parent Portal, SchoolConnect)?

Yes, all NHA schools use the same communication tools. Parents and guardians can stay connected using the same Parent Portal and SchoolConnect accounts they already know.
