NHA School Interview FAQ

Our schools pride themselves in the environment they’ve cultivated, where everyone feels like they belong, and like they are a part of the family. We want our candidates to feel just as welcome!

How should I dress?

We recommend business casual attire to ensure you make a professional impression. If you are interviewing for a teaching role, a blazer or professional jacket is appropriate.

Where should I park?

Visitor parking is available at each school, typically near the main entrance. If you're unsure where to park, feel free to call the school office for guidance before your interview.

How early should I arrive?

Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled interview time. This will give you time to check in and get settled before the interview begins.

What documents should I bring?

Bring a copy of your resume and any teaching certifications or credentials (if applicable). Teaching portfolios are welcome but not required.

Who will I be meeting with?

You will typically meet with the principal, one or more deans, and occasionally a grade-level teacher. If you have questions about the interview panel, feel free to inquire when the school is reaching out to schedule the interview.

How long will the interview last?

Interviews usually last between 45 minutes to an hour. If a teaching demonstration is required, you'll be notified in advance.

Will I need to prepare a teaching demonstration?

For teaching positions, a teaching demonstration may be required. If this applies to your interview, the school will provide detailed instructions on the expectations and topic when scheduling the interview. Here are some tips to help you prepare.

What questions should I ask?

Come prepared with any questions you may have regarding the position, the school, and/or NHA as a whole.

What type of questions can I expect during the interview?

The interview will include a mix of behavioral and situational questions, with a focus on the SAR method (Situation, Action, Result). This approach allows you to share specific examples of your experiences, highlighting how you handled various situations and the outcomes of your actions. You’ll also have the opportunity to discuss your teaching philosophy and experience.

How can I learn more about the school before the interview?

You can visit the school’s website to explore information about its curriculum, culture, and community engagement. Head to the NHA School Finder, select the school's state from the drop down list, and find the school on the map or in the listing below.
