Alternative Teacher Certification
Georgia offers two types of certifications for teachers wanting to get certified who do not hold a bachelor's degree or higher with a major in education: a Provisional Certificate and an Induction Certificate.
A Provisional Certificate is for educators who are currently enrolled in a GaPSC-accepted accredited educator preparation program (including the GaTAPP program). This certificate is valid for 3 years while the educator completes their program.
An Induction Certificate is for educators who have completed a GaPSC-accepted accredited educator preparation program, but who have outstanding requirements for professional certification (such as testing or Georgia specific requirements). This certificate is valid for up to 5 years but can be converted to a professional certificate after 3 years of experience in the field if all outstanding requirements are completed.
