Indiana Teacher Licensure

 As an Indiana teacher, as long as your license is valid on the first day of the current academic school year, the license shall be considered valid for the duration of the current academic school year.  However, the license will not be renewed until the renewal requirements have been met. You are encouraged to work towards completing your renewal requirements prior to your license's expiration date to prevent a risk to your employment. If you have additional questions, please contact your Credentialing Consultant. 
 

Alternative Treacher Certification

What are the requirements?

  • Must hold a valid CPR certification, for more information on that click here.
  • Must have completed suicide prevention training, for more information on that click here.
  • Must possess at minimum a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university
  • Official transcripts of all degrees of the applicant (not needed if the applicant holds an Indiana Educator License)
  • EPs for Building Level Administrators require a letter verifying a minimum of two years teaching experience
  • EPs for ALL Career and Technical Education (CTE) areas must provide documentation verifying 4000 hours of documented work experience. This should be a signed letter on business letterhead. The letter should document work responsibilities and the number of hours worked

Transition License:

What are the requirements?

  • Must be enrolled in an Indiana college/university T2T program and hired by an Indiana School Corporation
  • Official transcripts that bear the sign and/or seal of the registrar, the degree and date conferred. Provide transcripts for ALL completed coursework at ALL institutions attended
  • Valid CPR card from IDOE approved provider. Applicants for initial licensure of any type and applicants for all renewals must show proof of valid CPR/AED/Heimlich certification. 
  • Suicide Prevention Training Certificate
  • A letter from the Indiana T2T program verifying acceptance into the program on letterhead and signed
  • If applicable, a copy of test score report showing passing score(s) of the content area(s) that applicant also wishes to be added to a license

Charter School License:

What are the requirements?

  • Must hold a valid CPR certification
  • Must have completed suicide prevention training

AND must meet one of the following:

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with an overall GPA of 3.0 with the major of the earned degree in the content area in which the candidate wants to teach

OR

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and pass the appropriate licensure exam in the content area the candidate wishes to teach
