Research Triangle Charter Academy Donates Over 700 Items to Local Foster Care Closet

Research Triangle Charter Academy hosted a foster care drive and raised over 700 items to donate to a local foster care closet that serves the Durham area.

Each grade was tasked with donating one specific item in order to make overnight bags to help kids who are being placed in foster care. Items donated included toiletries, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, combs, brushes, deodorant, and socks, and comfort items, including coloring books, crayons, markers, blankets, and stuffed animals.

The idea for the project came to life when the Elementary BETA Club wanted to complete a final service project. They decided that foster children had an abundance of needs.

The BETA Club promotes high academic achievement, character, leadership, and service. The club is reserved for upper-elementary and middle school scholars.

School staff was eager to help with donations, “staff asked how they could help, and we asked them to bring in feminine products,” said Amanda Harris, kindergarten teacher at Research Triangle.
