Excel Charter Academy Ranks Earns Top 10 Ranking from U.S. News & World Report

Excel Charter Academy has been recognized for its strong academic results and the well-rounded learning experience it provides students. In the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Excel ranked ninth on the Best Charter Middle Schools in Michigan list and also earned the 10th spot on the state’s Best Charter Elementary Schools list.

For families, this recognition reflects more than test scores. It points to a school culture built on academic excellence, clear expectations, and strong partnerships with parents. Excel has consistently outperformed the local district for 15 years by maintaining high standards and helping students take responsibility for their learning.

U.S. News & World Report highlighted Excel’s math and reading performance at all levels. Math and reading performance levels in elementary and middle school were rated well above expectations. These results reflect focused instruction, a structured learning environment, and teachers who support students as they build strong academic foundations.

Character development is a central part of the Excel experience. Through NHA’s Moral Focus™ program, students learn monthly virtues and practice making positive choices in and out of the classroom. In fact, 87% of parents at Excel say the Moral Focus program has had a positive impact on their child, reinforcing the school’s commitment to developing both strong students and strong character.

In addition to academics, Excel offers a well-rounded education that helps students grow as leaders and teammates. Students have opportunities to participate in leadership activities, sports, clubs, electives, school events, and field trips, supporting engagement, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

This year marks the fifth time U.S. News & World Report has ranked elementary and middle schools, providing families with trusted information as they explore school options. Rankings are based on math and reading proficiency, state assessments, and how schools perform compared to expectations. Learn more about the ranking methodology here.
