Renewals & Expired Certificates

Employees in roles that require certification must maintain and renew their credentials to remain compliant. Renewal requirements vary by state.

Once you accept a position with NHA, your credentialing consultant will provide guidance on your state-specific renewal requirements.

Renewing Your Certification

Be sure to start your renewal process at least 90 days before your certificate is due to expire to avoid any delays or lapses in certification.

While requirements vary by state, most renewal processes include:

  • Submitting a renewal application
  • Disclosing any convictions
  • Completing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development (PD)
  • Paying applicable renewal fees

Additonal Requirements

Some certificate types may require renewal through your employer. For details about your specific requirements, please contact your credentialing consultant.

What If My Certificate Expires?

If you did not renew your certificate on time, some states may offer a grace period where you can still renew your certficiate, though late fees may apply.

If your role requires an active certification, you may not be permitted to work in the classroom until your certificate is reinstated.
