Meet Principal Alaina Dwyer

Finding your passion in life is something Principal Dwyer challenges everyone to do. “Growing up, I was the little girl that would line up her dolls and play teacher in front of a chalkboard for fun…so it’s easy to see the career path I chose.”

Guiding students through their high school years is the perfect place for Principal Dwyer. The learnings, experiences, and character-building virtues will follow them into the next chapter of their young adult lives, and she’s determined to prepare them well.

Coming to us directly from Laurus Academy (a National Heritage Academy school in Southfield) where she served as the Middle School Dean for the past 8 years, Principal Dwyer has over 12 years’ experience with National Heritage Academy. She values the moral focus virtues wisdom, respect, and integrity, and knows all her students are well-served in combining these virtues with their educational experiences.

“We have really great kids at Taylor Prep and it’s our culture to ‘meet them where they are
— academically, socially, emotionally — and then put our resources, tools, and hearts into helping them succeed.”

Speaking from the heart comes naturally for Principal Dwyer. As a mother of two young children (ages 3 and 7) she knows her role as Principal will always have a nurturing side. She promises to always listen to what is most important to you and your student.

“I want our students to be comfortable enough to push themselves — explore new interests and inspire others. And to know above all, they are cared for.”

Principal Dwyer will always be an advocate for opportunity when it comes to your child at Taylor Prep. From taking advantage of the Early College Program (“a great opportunity” she says) to promoting student-led interest groups and community service programs. “We want to prepare every student for the best possible path forward, especially while they have the people, tools, and resources around them to give them the footing they need for life beyond high school.”

Makes us wonder where all those dolls ended up. They didn’t realize the little girl in front of them had big dreams for their future.
