National Heritage Online Academy families can choose the learning model that works best for them: Live Online and Self-Paced. Each learning model uses a research-backed curriculum and is supported by credentialed teachers. Want a structured school day with live classes? Two Learning Models
Which is Right for Your Child
Both models follow the same curriculum and the same expectations. The difference is how and when your child learns.
Live Online
Instruction Style: Live classes led by teachers
Schedule: Follows a daily schedule with live class times
Pacing: Students follow the same timeline set by the teacher
Academic Support: Live teacher help, virtual open office hours, tutoring, and academic check-ins
Technology Requirements:
- High-speed internet
- Chromebooks are provided
- Headphones with microphone to participate in class
- Student are allowed to use their own device if it alls within requirements
Self-Paced
Instruction Style: Student can learn at their own pace
Schedule: Students choose when to work each day or week
Pacing: Students work at their own pace to complete weekly required assignments
Academic Support: Virtual open office hours, tutoring, coaching, and support when needed
Technology Requirements:
- High-speed internet
- Chromebooks are provided
- Student are allowed to use their own device if it alls within requirements
The Same in Both Models
Courses
English language arts, math, science, history and social studies, electives, and Moral Focus™ in grades K-12. College Advisory in grades 7-12 and world language in grades 9-12.
Community and Events
Field trips, award ceremonies, celebrations, and special events. Clubs, National Honor Society, and Student Council. Prom and graduation for seniors, and a yearbook available for purchase each year.
Testing and Services
State-required in-person testing for students in grades 3-11. English language learner support, counseling, and technology support are available to all students.

Live Online
Live Online works best for students who:
- Do well with a full-day schedule and teacher-led instruction
- Participate comfortably in live discussions and class activities
- Can use email, word processors, and learning platforms
- Have reliable internet and a quiet place to work
And for families where a parent or guardian can:
- Provide daily structure and routine
- Make sure assignments get completed
- Communicate regularly with teachers
Self-Paced
Self-Paced works best for students who:
- Manage their time well and stay focused without frequent reminders
- Work comfortably at their own pace
- Are confident with online learning platforms
- Can complete an average of 35 hours of coursework each week
And for families where a parent or guardian can:
- Serve as a learning coach
- Help organize daily learning
- Check in regularly and offer academic or tech support
