U.S. News & World Report: National Heritage Academies Has Top 10 Best Charter Middle Schools in Michigan

Schools in North Carolina and Ohio also receive top rankings

Ten National Heritage Academies’ (NHA) schools took the Top 10 spots in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Charter Middle Schools list. A leader in education since its founding in 1995, NHA also saw 16 of its schools place in the top 10 for best charter schools lists.

NHA middle and elementary schools in Michigan (13), North Carolina (3), and Ohio (1) include:

Top 10 Michigan Charter Middle Schools – All NHA Schools

1. Achieve Charter Academy – Canton
2. Chandler Woods Charter Academy – Belmont 
3. South Arbor Charter Academy – Ypsilanti 
4. Canton Charter Academy – Canton 
5. Plymouth Scholars – Plymouth 
6. Cross Creek Charter Academy – Byron Center 
7. Eagle Crest Charter Academy – Holland 
8. Keystone Academy – Belleville 
9. Excel Charter Academy – Grand Rapids
10. South Canton Scholars – Canton 

NHA also filled the top nine spots on the Michigan elementary charter school list with Plymouth Scholars' K-5 program in Plymouth taking the top spot. Also making the list: 

• Chandler Woods Charter Academy in Belmont ranked second
• Cross Creek Charter Academy in Byron Center ranked third
• South Arbor Charter Academy in Ypsilanti ranked fourth
• Hamtramck Charter Academy in Hamtramck ranked fifth
• Excel Charter Academy in Grand Rapids ranked sixth
• Vanguard Charter Academy in Wyoming ranked seventh
• Achieve Charter Academy in Canton ranked eighth
• Eagle Crest Charter Academy in Holland ranked ninth

In North Carolina, Greensboro Academy ranked third on the list of charter middle schools in the state, while Peak Charter Academy in Apex ranked in sixth place on the same list. Summerfield Charter Academy was ranked ninth on the list of charter elementary schools, and Peak Charter Academy also ranked 10th on that list as well.

In Ohio, Pathway School of Discovery in Dayton ranked eighth on the list of charter middle schools in the state.

Rankings were determined by analyzing math and reading proficiency, state assessments and how schools performed compared to expectations. Read more about the ranking’s methodology here.
