Xavier Norman wanted to be someone his classmates looked up to. The 2026 Westfield Preparatory High School graduate grew as a leader and student in his four years at the school, and now he’s ready to use those skills at the college level.
Xavier joined Westfield Prep during his freshman year and said he wanted to set a good example for his fellow students. Thanks to his involvement in a variety of school clubs and organizations, he accomplished that goal.
He enjoyed giving back to his community as part of Westfield Prep’s National Honor Society and helped organize a senior field trip to an apple orchard this past Fall.
Outside of school, Xavier served as Sergeant-at-Arms for the Detroit chapter of Top Teens of America. The organization provides teens opportunities for career and character development, extracurricular support, and volunteer activities. Xavier said community service was a priority for him, so he was happy to give back.
“I wanted these opportunities not only to put back into my community, but also to provide structure,” Xavier said. “I just want the kids after me in the roles have the same opportunities that I did.”
His leadership skills translated well onto the football field. Xavier was one of the first 10 students to join Westfield Prep’s football program when it was launched and served as team captain this past season. Xavier was proud his team went on a six-game winning streak during his senior season.
One of the more memorable moments from Xavier’s experience at Westfield Prep came when the school was honored with a Touchdown In Your Town grant from the Detroit Lions. Xavier and his teammates were honored on the field before a Detroit Lions preseason game, and it’s something they’ll never forget.
“It was the best moment of my life,” Xavier said. “It was great. We love what the Lions did for us.”
Xavier was just as motivated in the classroom as he was on the field. He participated in the Early Middle College program and has a head start on college credit. Xavier said he learned time management skills and was relieved to know he won’t accrue as much debt thanks to the program.
He will be traveling to Atlanta for his college experience where he will attend Morehouse College. Xavier plans on studying Business Management and International Business in hopes of becoming a sports agent.
Xavier said he is looking forward to the community of focused and determined peers awaiting him at Morehouse College.
Wherever Xavier’s journey takes him, he’ll be better equipped to face the challenges ahead thanks to his experience at Westfield Prep.
“It was a great school to go to,” Xavier said.
