Looking Ahead
College Prep
Students at PrepNet Virtual can start college before they graduate. Through dual enrollment, they earn college credit while finishing high school, and the Early Middle College Program gives students five years to earn both a diploma and an associate degree or certificate, tuition-free. Our college counselors work with students on SAT prep, applications, scholarships, and financial aid, and juniors and seniors can schedule campus visits to see what fits.
Dual Enrollment
Students can take college courses while still in high school, earning credit toward both a diploma and a degree. Contact us to learn how to get started.
Early Middle College Program
Over five years, students can earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree or certificate, tuition-free. NHA covers tuition, books, and required fees.
College Counseling
Our college counselors work one-on-one with students and families on goal-setting, applications, scholarships, and financial aid, starting in ninth grade.
Character Development
Academic Success Alone Isn't Enough
Through Moral Focusâ„¢, high school students explore virtues like respect, integrity, compassion, and self-control, and how they apply to the decisions they're facing now. Lessons live in a dedicated Advisory class and are built into core coursework, shifting from learning what a virtue means to practicing leadership, responsibility, and real-world judgment. The goal is that students leave capable, ethical, and prepared for what comes after high school.
Standards-Based Grading
PrepNet Virtual Academy uses standards-based grading for grades 9-12. With standards-based grading, the focus is learning. Students are not graded on an accumulation of points or an average of points from each assignment. Assignments and activities are practice for the skill or knowledge a student is meant to acquire as defined by a standard. A standard is an agreed upon level of skill or knowledge a student demonstrates by the end of a learning period and is measurable.
Standards-Based Grading:
- Precisely clarifies what an assigned grade means.
- Defines what students must be able to do.
- Defines what teachers should be teaching.
With standards-based grading students go through a logical progression from 2.0 to 3.0 to 4.0 as seen in the chart below.
| Level | Scale | Letter | Percent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exceeds — Challenge Skills | 4.0 | A+ | 100 |
| 3.5 | A | 96 | |
| Proficient — College Readiness Skills | 3.0 | A- | 92 |
| 2.5 | B- | 82 | |
| Approaching — Foundational Skills | 2.0 | C- | 72 |
| Beginning — Not Passing | 1.5 | D | 65 |
| 1.0 | D- | 62 | |
| 0.5 | F | 55 | |
| 0.0 | F | 50 |
