Plymouth Scholars Charter Academy Ranked a Top 10 Public Middle School in Michigan

Plymouth Scholars Charter Academy has been recognized for its strong academic results and the supportive learning environment it provides students. In the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Plymouth Scholars earned an eighth-place ranking on the Best Public Middle Schools in Michigan list, marking an important milestone for the school.

In addition to its public school recognition, Plymouth Scholars also ranked among the top charter schools in the state. The school’s elementary program was named the third-best charter elementary school in Michigan, while its middle school program ranked second on the Best Charter Middle Schools list.

For families, this recognition reflects more than test scores. It points to a school culture built on academic excellence, clear expectations, and strong partnerships with parents. A newly named Michigan Blue Ribbon School, Plymouth Scholars Charter Academy has outperformed the local district since opening in 2012 by maintaining high standards and supporting students as they take responsibility for their learning.

U.S. News & World Report highlighted Plymouth Scholars’ middle school math and reading performance, rating both well above expectations. These outcomes reflect focused instruction, a structured learning environment, and teachers who help students build strong academic foundations.

Character development is a central part of the Plymouth Scholars experience. Through NHA’s Moral Focus™ program, students learn monthly virtues and practice making positive choices in and out of the classroom. In fact, 94% of parents at Plymouth Scholars say the Moral Focus program has had a positive impact on their child, reinforcing the school’s commitment to developing both strong students and strong character.

In addition to academics, Plymouth Scholars offers a well-rounded education that helps students grow as leaders and teammates. Students have opportunities to participate in leadership activities, sports, clubs, electives, school events, and field trips, supporting engagement, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

This year marks the fifth time U.S. News & World Report has ranked elementary and middle schools, providing families with trusted information as they explore school options. Rankings are based on math and reading proficiency, state assessments, and how schools perform compared to expectations. Learn more about the ranking methodology here.
