Jo’Cara Rogers, a fifth-grade student at Inspire Charter Academy, was surprised with an all school assembly to learn she was one of five national grand prize winners in the 2016-17 Preferred Meals “Healthy Breakfast for a Healthier Me!” Art Contest.

Her winning design was showcased at the surprise assembly. On hand to congratulate Jo’Cara was representatives from Preferred Meals, as well as special guest and artist JessGo. During the assembly JessGo performed by painting a mural reading "Inspire” on one of the school walls. She also gave a talk to students about healthy lifestyles.Inspire mural

“We are so proud of Jo’Cara Rogers,” said Inspire Art Teacher Jackie Gray. “Having JessGo here to paint a special mural for our school was a wonderful addition. What a great day!"

Preferred Meals created the art contest and nutrition plan program in 2012 to educate children and support healthy eating. The contest, available to students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, provides nutrition education and promotes creativity in a fun and imaginative way.

Winners were selected based on originality of design, theme, message clarity and artistic merit by a special judging committee. First and Second place winners will see their art featured throughout their school meal program and Preferred Meals’ communications in the upcoming 2017/2018 school year.
