Southside Fall News from the Principal

Welcome back to school, students and parents! I enjoyed meeting many of you during our Back to School Night. Our students had a great start to the new school year. We are excited about their growth and maturation over the summer to now and are looking forward to our partnership with you in their academic and social-emotional success. How time flies, right? It is hard to believe that we are approaching our first round of Parent-Teacher Conferences.

We look forward to seeing you in attendance for the conferences to discuss the progress your child is making thus far in the 2019-2020 school year. During the Parent-Teacher Conferences, we will also have computers set-up to complete the fall Voice of the Parent Survey. All parents who complete this survey will earn a dress down day pass for each of their scholars. The survey can be found at VoiceofParent.com and then accessed by entering your unique code. The window for this survey runs from October 28th to November 24th. If you have any question, please call us directly at the school. Thank you very much for your support of Southside.

While you are visiting us, we encourage you to look at the student work that we have posted on the bulletin boards of our hallways and within our classrooms. We are very pleased with the work that our teachers do with your children, and we always look for opportunities to brag about our awesome scholars. Also, please feel free to stop by my office to say hello and/or the offices of our Deans of Instruction: Ms. Curry - K-2 Dean, Mrs. Gallo - 3-5 Dean, Mrs. Guarasci - 6-8 Dean, and Mrs. Moss - Dean of Special Education and Intervention.

Please know we appreciate each one of our parents. We have placed a “Suggestion Box” right near the parent room. Please feel free to submit an anonymous note of what we are doing well (Glows) and areas where we can improve (Grows) as a school community. I will respond quarterly to your comments and recommendations. Your willingness to partner with us as we do this very important work of educating your children is priceless. You are your child's first teacher and we simply could not do this without you.

We are also excited that our after-school learning program has begun. In addition, Southside has begun its second year of having a Robotics Club as an additional method to provide scholars with learning experiences. This year, scholars in grades 6-8 have been invited to participate. Practices begin November 1, 2019 with their first competitive game on January 18, 2020 right here in Syracuse, New York. Please review the principal newsletter for important dates to mark on your calendars, join our fabulous PTO, and of course come out to support our Girls’ Volleyball and Boys’ Basketball Teams during the Fall season.

Go Hawks!
