 Ralph Garza, Principal

Education

  •     Baylor University:  Bachelor of Science
  •     University of Texas at Pan American:  Master of Education in Curriculum
  •     Madonna University:  Master’s degree in Educational Leadership

Previous experience

I worked as an assistant principal and Dean of Instruction at Warrendale Charter Academy from 2007 until 2011. I was a classroom teacher for twelve years before becoming a school administrator. I have taught 6th grade science, 8th grade history, and fourth and fifth grade.

What do you like most about working here?

I am excited to be a part of a great team at Quest Charter Academy.  We work hard every day to ensure we reach our goals.

Personal information

I am married and I also have three wonderful boys.  I enjoy spending time with my family and also sitting down and reading interesting books.

 

Kristin Young, Dean of Lower Elementary

Education

  •     Lake Superior State University:  Bachelor's degree
  •     Wayne State University:  Master’s Degree in Special Education (in progress)
  •     Wayne State University:  Master’s Degree in Administration (in progress)

Previous experience

I taught for seven years at Detroit Merit Academy. I taught second, third, and fourth grades there.

What do you like most about working here?

I enjoy working at Quest because we have truly dedicated teachers and parents. Coming to work and seeing all of the students’ smiles make getting up easy every day. I enjoy the different people I am fortunate enough to work with.

 

Kelly Osterhout, Middle School Dean

Education

  •     Eastern Michigan University: Master’s degree in Educational Leadership

What do you like most about working here?

I am excited to begin working with the Quest community. There is pride in working as a team to achieve our goals.

Previous experience

I began my career as a fifth grade teacher in Oak Park, then moved to the middle school teaching eighth grade math in Southfield. For the last four years I have been an instructional coach and traveled to various schools. I am extremely excited to begin working with the Quest families.

Personal

I am married and have three awesome children. My favorite things to do are spending time with my family and reading.

 

Bethany Garbutt, Dean of Upper Elementary

Education

  • Eastern Michigan University- Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Dual Major in Mathematics and Integrated Science

Previous education experience and number of years in the field:

  • Lead pre-school teacher and Assistant Director – 2004-2009
  • Academic Support in Novi Community School District- 2009-2010
  • Middle School Math & Science Teacher at Quest Academy- 2010-2013
  • Upper Elementary Dean at Quest Academy- 2013- Present
 

What do you like most about working here?

I absolutely love the opportunity to partner with Quest’s community of students, parents, and educators.  I enjoy building relationships with the students and their families and developing a strong home/school partnership.
I also feel fortunate to work with such a dedicated group of educators and I am extremely proud of our school’s focus on preparing students to be college-ready. 
 

Personal

I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have a 2 year old son named Benjamin.  Our family also consists of our three rescued dogs, Odie, Mozilla, and Theodore.  When I am not at Quest, I enjoy spending time outdoors; running, hiking, dirt-biking, camping, and playing sports.
 

 

Nadine Dufrane, Dean of Intervention

Education

  •     Madonna University:  M.A. Educational Leadership

Previous experience

I taught for six years at Flagship Charter Academy. While there, I taught students in third through eighth grade.

What do you like most about working here?

Quest is an amazingly supportive school for students, staff and parents!  I love all the programs that are offered, and that instruction is rigorous, but taught at the students’ level to ensure success.

Personal information

Spending time with my family is very important.  I love relaxing at the family cottage on Lake Huron!  Also, there is nothing better than curling up with a good book.  Whether it be on the couch on a snowy day, or outside on a blanket in the sun.
