Cheers and Tears Event Helps Kindergarten Families Ease Into the School Year
Quest Charter Academy welcomed kindergarteners and their families back to school with some extra care this year.
The school hosted Cheers and Tears to ease the anxiety of a student’s first day. The school day started a little later so families could say their final goodbyes before kids started their academic careers.
Admissions Representative Stephanie Sauve said the school also offered supplies for all of the cheers and tears ahead.

“I had a little table set up to the side and I bought little packs of tissues for parents,” Sauve said. “Some parents might cry that first day, but I tried to also frame it as something to use for all the happy tears they’ll have throughout the year.”
Putting this positive spin on what can be a challenging moment helped set an exciting tone for the new school year.
Quest also provided students with Kinder Kits, a collection of items to inspire them. These kits included this uplifting card:
- Eraser: To let you know that it’s OK to make mistakes. That’s how we learn!
- Smarties: To show you how smart we know you are.
- Sticker: To remind you that we’ll all “stick” together and help each other.
- Lifesaver: To remind you that your teacher is always here to help you.
- Star: To remind you to always shine bright and try your best.
- Crayon: To remind you that you make our classroom more colorful and fun!

Sauve said she saw students brighten when they opened their Kinder Kits.
“One little girl, her face just lit up,” Sauve said. “I think it just makes them feel good and proud to be a kindergartener. We wanted to give them a positive environment.”
It was the first year of Cheers and Tears at Quest, but Sauve said she was confident it would return in the future.

“It made it more exciting to start school.”
Way to go, Stephanie and the entire Quest Kindergarten Team! Have a great school year!
