A Knapp Academy Education

Knapp Academy has the goal to be the greatest K–8 school in the country. In order to achieve this goal, Knapp does a variety of service projects that really show our Moral Focus. During the 2010–2011 school year, we raised funds for Children's Food Basket and for a family who lost their home to a fire, collected jeans for homeless children, and donated funds to the PORT Program at the DeVos Children's Hospital.

Knapp also has a lot of fun activities throughout the school year. In the fall, we have a Fund Racer where we raise money and run/walk around a track. For the past three years we have been joined by members of The Biggest Loser Casts. They have taken pictures and exercised with us, which has been a great experience.

Our middle school celebrates MOYA every October. MOYA stands for Month of the Young Adolescent. During this month, we celebrate our middle school students with activities, special guests, and speakers. This event culminates with a Shadow Day in which members of the community come to the school to shadow one of our students for the day.

For the last four years Knapp has participated in the Watch D.O.G.S. Program. This is a program in which fathers are invited to come to Knapp for a day to volunteer. They participate in class discussions, one-on-one and small group learning, recess, and lunch duty, and they get the opportunity to see what their student does on a daily basis. This program kicks off with a Pizza Night in September to start the year off right.
