Celebrating Principal Dr. Amanda Brown for National Principal’s Month

NHA Communications Team

October is National Principal’s Month, a time to recognize the dedication, vision, and leadership that drive schools forward. As part of a monthlong series highlighting outstanding school leaders, this week's spotlight features Four Points Preparatory Academy Principal Dr. Amanda Brown. Nominated by Registrar Kesha Collier and Dean Ashley Smiley, Dr. Brown is being celebrated for her presence, mentorship, and extraordinary impact as a founding leader within the National Heritage Academies® (NHA®) community.

A Heart for the Everyday Moments

Dr. Brown’s leadership story is built on both grand milestones and quiet, intentional connections. As the founding principal of Four Points Preparatory Academy who has also helped launch and support several other schools across the network, her career reflects years of high-level organizational impact. Yet, what truly defines her leadership is her refusal to let titles distance her from the people she serves.

"She has years of leadership experience and has helped build strong school communities,” Kesha shared. “What stands out most to me is that she has never become too busy or too important to simply be there for her staff and school families."

That approachable warmth is visible in the halls every single day, whether she is celebrating a small victory, checking on a sick student in the nurse’s office, or pausing her busy schedule to listen to a teammate.

"Her door is always open to staff, and she has a way of making you feel like what you have to say matters,” Kesha noted. “She is constantly encouraging us, cheering us on, and reminding us to celebrate the small wins along the way."

That genuine atmosphere leaves an unforgettable impression on prospective families from the moment they step onto campus. Kesha recalled a story from a parent who decided to enroll her child on the spot after watching Dr. Brown warmly interact with and embrace students in the hallway during a tour, knowing immediately that Four Points was the right home for her child.

"Dr. Brown has helped build Four Points from the beginning, but what makes her an Everyday Mentor is how she continues to show up every single day with a hug, an encouraging word, an open door, a helping hand, or a celebration of someone's victory," Kesha reflected.

Coaching in the Moment and Growing Leaders

Beyond her welcoming presence, Dr. Brown brings an active, hands-on approach to professional development, transforming the entire school into a living lab for growth. Rather than reserving guidance for formal performance reviews or scheduled office meetings, she coaches in real time, stepping into classrooms to teach alongside educators, modeling strategies, and creating clear pathways for staff members eager to grow within NHA.

"When I read the description of an Everyday Mentor, I immediately thought of Dr. Brown because she is constantly growing leaders and supporting the people around her every single day," Dean Ashley Smiley shared. "One thing I have learned from working alongside her is that leadership and coaching do not always have to happen in a scheduled meeting. Sometimes it happens right in the moment, and Dr. Brown is definitely an on-the-spot coach."

That active involvement is apparent in how she engages directly with the curriculum and instruction alongside her team.

"She conducts Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), makes our staff meetings informative and meaningful, and creates opportunities for staff members who are interested in growing," Dean Smiley explained. "When she visits classrooms, she doesn’t just observe. She will jump right into a lesson, work with students, model for teachers, and provide feedback and support."

For Dean Smiley, that intentional mentorship has made a profound personal impact during her own transition into school administration.

"As a new Dean, I have personally been able to learn and grow under her leadership as well. She has given me opportunities to lead, learn, ask questions, and continue developing myself as a school leader. That is one of the things that makes this nomination personal for me because I am not just watching her mentor others; I get to experience it myself."

Leading by Example and Building Community

Dr. Brown’s dedication extends into every corner of school life and reaches far beyond staff and students to encompass her school’s families. Thanks to events like "Coffee with the Principal," where parents get hands-on experience with academic lessons and Moral Focus™ virtues, Dr. Brown ensures everyone feels valued, supported, and connected.

"What I also love about her leadership is that it extends beyond our staff," Dean Smiley noted. "During Coffee with the Principal, she takes the time to help our families understand our curriculum and our Moral Focus™ virtues. She will model things for parents and give them a hands-on opportunity to experience what their children are learning instead of simply talking about it."

Her constant presence at morning carpool, lunch duty across grade levels, classroom walkthroughs, and weekend school events reflects a leader who works directly alongside her team.

"She is present everywhere," Dean Smiley added. "Our students know her, our families know her, and our staff know that she is right there in the work with us."

Ultimately, it is this seamless blend of high standards, active coaching, and deep empathy that makes Dr. Brown an extraordinary principal and mentor.

"Dr. Brown represents what it means to be an Everyday Mentor," Dean Smiley concluded. "She leads by being present, by teaching, by coaching, by supporting, and most importantly, by genuinely investing in the growth of the people around her."

Thank you, Dr. Brown, for your steadfast leadership, open door, and continuous dedication to Four Points Preparatory Academy and the National Heritage Academies family. Happy Principal’s Month!
