The Forsyth girls basketball team won their conference championship, traveled to watch a college game, and met with a retired NFL player.
“Coach Sonya Wagstaff and our Lady Falcons had an amazing season as our Lady Falcons Basketball team returned to the court at Forsyth Academy,” said Chase Arrington, dean of middle school at Forsyth. “She did a job beyond all jobs to earn the respect of her players, parents, and other teams in the area. People know the Lady Falcons and I am so proud of the hard work each student and coach put forth this season! Congratulations on a job well done!”Seventh grade student Christiana Young scored 372 points in 11 games leading the Forsyth Academy Lady Falcons to their conference championship. The Lady Falcons finished strong with a 10-0 record.
The team made it through the first round of the state championship before losing its first game. After the first round, former NFL San Diego Charger player and a friend of Coach Wagstaff, took the team and their parents out to dinner at the Olive Garden.
Coached by Ms. Wagstaff, an eighth grade math teacher at Forsyth, the team also had an opportunity to attend the Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams vs. Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos collegiate basketball game in January.
“A player’s grandmother, Boss Lady Anita Dean, an on-air gospel radio personality at 1340 AM The Light prayed for us on-air and gave Forsyth Academy shout outs,” said Wagstaff. “This has been a tremendous journey and story.
