Building Character and Community: How NFL Alum Chris Evans is Inspiring Students at Endeavor
Endeavor Charter Academy hallways are buzzing with extra energy this fall, thanks to a special partnership bringing athletic drills, mentorship, and life lessons straight to the gymnasium. Former Michigan Wolverines and Cincinnati Bengals running back Chris Evans launched his CE Stars community program at the school, spending his afternoons inspiring students and instilling core values.
Through a mix of physical activity, team huddles, and character-building chats, Evans created a supportive environment where students can build confidence and practice National Heritage Academies® (NHA®) Moral Focus™ virtues in real time.
From Drills to Life Lessons

The after-school program combined athletic conditioning with structured mentoring. Evans led students through interactive drills, but the focus stretched far beyond physical fitness. During team huddles, he regularly talked to students about respecting their teachers throughout the school day and standing strong when challenges arise.
When workouts get tough, the lessons seamlessly blend with practice. Evans spoke directly to the power of perseverance when students grew tired, prompting classmates to step up and encourage one another to finish strong.
"The students related really well with Chris's huddle mentoring moments and incorporated our Moral Focus™ virtues," said Endeavor Charter Academy Principal Dereck Sly. "Chris talked to students about respecting teachers throughout the school day.”
Building Connections and Overcoming Shyness

While the environment is packed with enthusiasm, the initial sessions brought a natural learning curve, and plenty of lighthearted moments. When students accidentally went the wrong drill group, Evans gently called them back into a huddle to recalibrate and ensure everyone is on the same page.
That patient, encouraging approach has helped transform the group’s dynamic, turning once-quiet students into vocal teammates who cheer each other on.
"Most of the students were shy at first, but Chris had students working really well together and cheering loud when gathered together," Sly shared. "The students now come in with a great attitude and share with friends about the experience."
An Unforgettable Impact

For the Endeavor community, having a professional athlete dedicate his time to personal mentorship left a lasting impression that reaches far beyond the athletic field.
"Overall, it has been a great experience, and our students will remember this forever," said Sly. "It's not every day our students have a former NFL player wanting to come spend his time with them to build community and character."
What a wonderful initiative, Endeavor!
