Cross Creek and Greensboro Academies Honor Former Students with Celebratory Senior Walk Events

Applause and shouts of congratulations filled the hallways of Greensboro and Cross Creek Charter Academies recently as the two schools welcomed back former students who recently graduated from local high schools.
The Senior Walks featured grads, some clad in caps and gowns, marching through the hallways of their former schools to the delight of the current school children. The young scholars held up signs of congratulations and teachers shouted words of approval as their former students strode by smiling. Click here to view Cross Creek's senior walk.

“This is a great celebration for our past students,” Cross Creek Middle School Dean Yesenia Baker said. “It also gives our current students and staff the opportunity to see the successes of our students. We always talk about the places our students will go and now it gives them a firsthand experience of this.”
Many of the grads carried a sign in front of them to announce their future college plans. After the walk they enjoyed snacks and pizza and spent time catching up with each other.

“All I could think about was how invested our families are in our school, how much they volunteered, how generous they were to our teachers, and how much they love and miss us,” Greensboro Principal Tracey Duhaime told her staff. “That one hour meant so much to them as did the nine years many of our families spent with us. I can't tell you how many parents thanked me and expressed how much they appreciate GA and the staff! It was truly a memorable, meaningful moment to those parents who are getting ready to see their babies graduate and head off to college or other endeavors.”

At Cross Creek, Yesenia Baker set out school yearbooks from the years the grads spent at the school so they could look back at the old pictures.
“We hope to have this each year and make it a Cross Creek tradition,” Baker said.
Graduates visiting Greensboro had such a good time, many stuck around to chat and reflect on their time at the school.

“I honestly had no idea that many kids would be coming, which is awesome to see, or that they wouldn't want to leave!” Duhaime said.
