Canton Scholar Selected as Michigan’s Winner of The National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest

Ethan Antony, fifth-grade student at Canton Charter Academy, was recently announced as the Michigan winner of The National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest. The contest is a nationwide contest designed to promote awareness and child safety, surrounding issues such as missing and exploited children.

Artwork had to reflect the theme “Bringing Our Missing Children Home,” and was judged on creativity, reflection of the contest theme, and originality in design. The written component of the application was judged on comprehension of the theme, clarity, and grammar and syntax appropriate to the fifth-grade level.

Approximately 56 other students from around the state of Michigan entered the contest as well.

“Ethan earned this accomplishment through his hard work and effort,” said Rachel Travers, fifth-grade teacher at Canton. “He is a talented artist and an eloquent writer, which were both requirements of this contest.”

Antony received a national award certificate from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and will now move on to compete against winners from the 49 other states. The national winner receives a free trip to Washington, D.C.

“Promoting child safety and bringing awareness to child exploitation is so important because it shows compassion to those who are affected by it,” said Travers.

Great work, Ethan!
