Passion Project – Tech and Innovation
National Heritage Academies® (NHA®) is debuting a newly revamped Employee Spotlight feature: the Passion Project Series! This series shines a light on the dedicated team members who bring their unique interests, talents, and energy into our school communities. Alliance’s Markeith Wynn was nominated as The Tech and Innovation Guide, an educator heading up groundbreaking initiatives in robotics, eSports, and coding.
Markeith Wynn Sparks Curiosity and Problem Solving at Alliance Academy of Cincinnati
An educator’s journey often begins in unexpected places. But for Markeith Wynn, affectionately known as "Mr. Keith" by students and colleagues, the path to the classroom started right in the hallways he now leads.
As both a math interventionist and robotics lead at Alliance Academy of Cincinnati, a NHA partner-school, Mr. Keith has made an exceptional impact on his school community by taking on additional roles that enrich the educational experience for students and staff alike. His unique ability to merge real-world engineering with foundational mathematics, all while cultivating Moral Focus™ has made him an invaluable cornerstone of the school.
Nominated by Principal Jenny White, she shared that, "Mr. Keith has made an exceptional impact on our school community as our math interventionist and robotics expert. He creates engaging, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of problem-solving, even guiding students to design and build their own robots! Through his leadership and unwavering commitment to student success, Mr. Keith's impact is felt every day."

From Custodial Staff to Classroom Innovator
Before leading hands-on STEM initiatives, Mr. Keith was part of the school’s custodial facilities team. Interacting daily with students revealed a deeper calling to mentor and teach. He stepped into a paraprofessional role, helped with reading and math intervention, and ultimately built Alliance's robotics program from the ground up.
"Before I was an educator, I was cleaning, and I realized how fun it is interacting with the students, and so I decided I'm going to become a teacher."
Driven by a desire to connect with his "inner child," Mr. Keith spent an entire summer practicing, building eight different robot models to ensure he was fully prepared to guide his students. His relatable background allows him to connect naturally with young learners, whether through shared interests in anime and video games, or by building an environment grounded in respect and joy.

Bridging Math, Practical Engineering, and Moral Focus
In the robotics lab, abstract textbook concepts take dynamic physical form. When programming robots, students quickly realize that spatial reasoning and precise geometry are essential operational tools.
"We have to navigate and program our robots to travel through mazes. We have to get the exact measurements and the exact degrees for it to turn. And we have to do it 90 degrees and 180 degrees, it really ties into the engineering mathematics portion of it."
Whether testing designs or engineering bridges to support load weight, students learn through genuine trial and error. Wynn intentionally acts as a facilitator rather than handing out quick solutions, embedding Moral Focus™ virtues like perseverance, self-control, and integrity into every challenge. He reminds students that initial mistakes are not failures, but key steppingstones toward mastery.
"We're never going to be perfect. We're not robots. So, my goal is to talk as little as possible and allow them to problem solve. I just want to see them thrive."

Inspiring Future Innovators at Alliance
By creating a space where creativity and hands-on discovery thrive, Mr. Keith opens doors to future STEM careers. He encourages his students to look beyond the classroom and picture themselves as the engineers, software architects, and innovators of tomorrow.
"I tell my students ‘Maybe when you get older, you want to be a robotics designer. Please do. I would love to have a self-driving car made by you.’"
Through his innovative spirit, leadership, and unwavering commitment to student growth, Mr. Keith exemplifies the Passion Project Series, inspiring the next generation to build, create, and solve problems with confidence.
