Fifth-grade students at South Pointe Scholars Charter Academy learned how to become columnists and even created their own newspapers.
Each student was assigned the task to write an opinion article titled “Is Gymnastics a team sport?” During the process, students learned the purpose of a newspaper and how they operate.
Each student started with brainstorming, pre-writing, a rough draft, revising the rough draft, and editing before putting their final copy in their newspapers.
“They were able to take their writing skills to a whole new level,” said Tracy Spears, fifth-grade teacher at the school. “All the students had a great time creating their own personal newspapers.”
Way to go Panthers!
