Behind the Program
College Counseling at NHA
Koree Woodward, Director of High Schools at NHA, explains how our college and career counselors work one-on-one with students and families through four years of planning, applications, financial aid, and graduation requirements.
Our Staff
Meet Your College & Career Readiness Counselor
Amy Stoller works with students from ninth grade through graduation, helping them set goals and build a plan for what comes next. Whether your teen is headed to a four-year college, a trade program, the military, or straight into the workforce, they'll have someone in their corner the whole way.
Academic Planning
Tools and Resources for Your Teen's Plan
From course selection to transcripts, here's what students and families need to stay on track through high school.
Scheduling
Choosing the right courses each year keeps your teen on track for graduation and strengthens their college applications. Our counselors help students build a plan and stay organized along the way. Course scheduling and registration happen school-wide twice each academic year.
Curriculum
Our rigorous college-prep curriculum prepares every graduate for what comes next, whether that's college, career training, military service, or the workforce.
Graduation Requirements
Before graduating, students must fulfill the graduation criteria which is in alignment with the minimum admission standards set by the University of North Carolina system. In addition, students must fulfill at least 30 hours of community service each school year before graduation (120 hours total).
Dual Enrollment
Phoenix Academy partners with Guilford Technical Community College through Career and College Promise, North Carolina's dual enrollment program. Eligible students take tuition-free college courses while still in high school and earn credit they carry with them after graduation.
Students choose between two pathways:
College Transfer – for students planning to earn an associate or bachelor's degree at a community college or university. GTCC offers several transfer pathways.
Career and Technical Education – for students who want to begin a certificate or diploma program in a technical field or career area.
Exploring Options
Campus Visits
Seeing a campus in person helps students figure out what they want, and Phoenix Academy gives juniors and seniors two ways to do it. Students can visit colleges of their choice, and college representatives come to campus to present throughout the year.
Juniors and seniors receive two excused absences each year for campus visits. To get the excused absence, complete the forms with the front office two weeks before the visit.
To attend a college presentation at Phoenix Academy, sign up in the College Counseling office by the Friday before the presentation.
