Academic Results

Pembroke Academy students continue to excel in the classroom, achieving academic gains not seen by any other Michigan school over the past four years. In addition to earning “A” letter grades for student growth and performance, 92% of eighth-graders were proficient on the state test in English Language Arts in 2022-23. The year prior, 2021-22, 100% of eighth-graders were proficient in ELA. Even more notable is that Pembroke Academy outperformed 94% of schools in Michigan on the 2022-23 state test. It also was ranked the #1 school in Detroit for 2021-22, according to the Michigan School Index.

Pembroke Academy Sets a New Standard for Detroit

Principal Kinsey and her team have achieved what many believed was beyond reach—excellence in education for all students, regardless of background. Pembroke Academy’s recent recognition as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School marks a pivotal moment in Detroit’s educational history as only the fourth Detroit elementary school to receive this honor, and the first since 2001.
