College Readiness Starts in Kindergarten

Helping Your Child Prepare for College
Talk about it early. Kids who hear college mentioned as a normal part of their future are more likely to see it that way. Visit a campus when you're nearby, ask what they're curious about, and point out the connection between what they're learning now and what they might do later.
Start saving if you can. Many states offer 529 college savings plans, and small amounts started early add up. Look into what's available in your state.
And keep an eye on the fundamentals. Strong reading and math skills in elementary and middle school are what make challenging high school coursework possible, and that's what colleges actually look at.
