Grand River Charter Robotics Team Takes First Place

Grand River Charter Academy took first place in the State Championship in Robotics, with sister school South Canton placing second in the May 13 competition at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich.
Students Anirudh Bommanaveni, Pranit Lokineni, and Samarth Punjala beat out 54 other Michigan teams to earn first place for Grand River. Meanwhile, Pragya Choudhary, Jaya Choudhary, Riya Patchava, Reva Patchava, and Deeya Pate, who call themselves the TechSisters, placed second and earned the People’s Choice Award. The TechSisters previously won first place in the Robofest Junior Exhibition Competition at the University of Michigan  on April 11.

Both teams will compete in the International World Robotics Competition June 3 in Florida against teams from other countries.

Additionally, Grand River students Pranav Tammineedi and Rishab Lokineni Academy won seventh place in the state competition and also qualified for the World Robotics Competition.

The Techsisters are working on a project called HeroBots! The goal of their work is to develop robots that can assist victims stuck in natural disasters. For example, the Techsisters hope to build robots that can extract victims, give them food, guide them, provide shelter, and comfort them after the tragedy hits.
