DPA Students Transported Back to 1860

Fifth-grade students at Detroit Premier Academy (DPA) stayed at Camp Tamarack in Ortonville, Mich, where they were transported to a pioneer village in the 1860s.

In the village, the 33 students had to learn how to provide for their families with the tools that were available during that time period.
The students learned how to zip line, rock climb, complete a high ropes course, make Native American crafts, tie-dye, canoe, and square dance.
“Most of all, the group learned the importance of teamwork and cooperation during activities that were out of their comfort zone,” said Jillian Black, fifth-grade teacher at DPA.
Good work, students!
