School Social Worker at Center Line Prep Creates Clothing and Supply Room for Scholars
The needs of scholars come first, and that’s apparent at Center Line Preparatory Academy. Social Worker Julie Shaw saw a need for additional clothing items for some students and decided to do something about it.

Shaw began accepting donations to create a clothing and supply room at the school to assist scholars with uniform requirements and help with needs during colder temperatures. Donations came from parents and a variety of organizations that partner with Shaw.
“The effort that Ms. Shaw has put in to get these resources for our scholars is greatly appreciated,” Center Line Principal Donell James said. “It lets the school community know that we care. Having these extra resources here for our scholars can take care of their needs right here on the school campus. Parents also appreciate the personal touch that this gives to our school.”

Shaw received help from another person special to the school, Instructional Paraprofessional Donna Mobley. Over a weekend they organized all the donations into a little shop of sorts, where things can be found in a timely manner and provided to the student.
Most of the time students may need an article of clothing for their uniform,” James said. “They can come get that during the school day. When there are items needed outside of school uniform, it may be packaged and given to the student or family at dismissal.”
This effort has helped students adhere to the school’s dress code and stay warm throughout colder months.
Great work Julie and Donna!
