July 16, 2014 Dear Research Triangle Charter Academy Parents/Guardians: This letter is to inform you of a change in our school structure this year and how it will impact your child. We will implement what is known as a “staggered start” to our school day. Staggered start creates an academic environment structured around age. This change is necessary to comply with traffic laws set by Durham County and to create an easier flow to enter and exit the parking lot. Our kindergarten through fifth-grade students will share an earlier arrival and dismissal time than our middle school students. This is the new schedule to give you an idea of how the school day will flow this year. Middle School Students • Drop off Begins: 8:15 a.m. • School Begins: 8:30 a.m. • School Ends: 3:30 p.m. K-5 Students • Drop off Begins: 7:45 a.m. • School Begins: 8 a.m. • School Ends: 3 p.m. There is a plan in place if you have children in both middle school and the K-5 group. Middle school students can arrive early if they have a sibling in K-5. We will have an area dedicated to middle school students who arrive before school begins. In the afternoon, this will be reversed. All students must be picked up within 30 minutes of their dismissal time or enroll in the after school program. I feel this will be a positive change for all of our students, and I appreciate your support as we implement this staggered start approach to the school day. If you have any questions, feel free to call the office at 919-957-7108. Sincerely, Devon Carson Principal
