Atlanta Heights Charter School is a tuition-free, public charter school serving families in Southwest Atlanta. Atlanta Heights opened its doors for the first time in August 2010 and is housed in a new, 44,000-square foot, state-of-the-art facility featuring 31 classrooms, including designated art and music classrooms, a full gym/cafeteria, well-equipped media center and a designated parent room.

Scheduled to serve more than 700 local children in grades K-8 by 2013, Atlanta Heights opened with 400 K-5 students this year and will add one grade per year. Operated by National Heritage Academies (NHA), an experienced and successful education provider that partners with community groups to manage 67 public charter schools in eight states, the school provides a rigorous academic environment preparing students for success in high school, college and beyond. Founded on the four pillars of academic excellence, moral focus, parental partnership and student responsibility, Atlanta Heights Charter School sets high expectations for success and strives to ensure each student is equipped with the foundation they need for college readiness.

As a public charter school, Atlanta Heights is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors comprised of local community and business leaders passionate about providing additional public school choice to Atlanta residents. The school’s board is chaired by Kay Madati, vice president of audience experience at CNN Worldwide. Joining Mr. Madati on the board is Lara Hodgson, CEO of Insomnia, Keisha Escoffery, partner and public relations director at Kawall Communications, Bruce Strothers, marketing counsel for The Coca-Cola Company, and Karen Degrammont, vice president of product strategy and development for Turner Broadcasting Systems.
