School Leader Dresses in Feathers

From WILX-News

It was an unusually warm day Wednesday for Dean Alvin Holloway at Windemere Park Charter Academy in Lansing.

He wore an eagle costume all day, after students completed 118,000 minutes of reading in March. March is National Reading Month.

"My eighth grade students right now are reading the autobiography of Frederick Douglass," said Holloway. "A constant conversation in the classroom was how him being able to read helped him become a free person. It helped him become equal, it helped him escape, it helped him become a man, to be able to stand up and have pride in himself. And that's what we want our students to learn."

Windemere's mascot is the patriot eagle.

Independent Bank loaned the costume to the school. The bank has an eagle on its logo.
