Stories were told and Yvonne Thomas was all ears.
Windemere Park Charter Academy’s kindergarten students spent their Friday morning with their grandparents for the school’s ‘Grandparents Day.’ Thomas, the school’s principal, said about 60 grandparents showed up and shared some of their experiences.
“They reminisce about when they were in kindergarten,” she said. “At our school, we wear uniforms and that has been one of the changes from when they were in kindergarten. Also, they could not have a chance to eat lunch at school. Most times they had to walk home for lunch and then they returned.”
Thomas said the grandparents spent about half the day with their grandchildren eating breakfast, sitting in on meetings and going to recess. The students also sang for their guests, too.
It is the third year the school has hosted the program, Thomas said.
“The students can’t wait until their grandparents come and have that day with them,” she said. “A couple of (student’s) parents said their child could not sleep last night because they were excited for grandparents day.”
