—Mona Boersma will serve as the new principal of Walton Charter Academy for the 2014-2015 school year.
Ms. Boersma has been a staple at Walton Charter Academy for the past 15 years, most recently serving as the K-2 dean. Prior to her time as a dean she served as an English language arts coordinator, reading specialist, and fourth-grade classroom teacher.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Albion College, a master’s degree in reading and language arts from Oakland University, and a school administrator certification from Northern Michigan University.
“The Walton Charter Academy community has been my home for the past 15 years, I am extremely excited to continue here in this new role,” said Boersma. “I know that our students will continue to thrive in and out of the classroom and continue to raise the bar.”
Boersma began her role on June 30. Throughout the summer, Boersma has been meeting families, participating in community events, and helping prepare staff for the upcoming school year.
Walton Charter Academy is a free public charter school serving students in grades kindergarten through eighth.
