Family literacy night planned for Thursday at Vista Charter Academy

10/15/2013

G0218AIRMEN2.JPGGRAND RAPIDS, MI - Vista Charter Academy will host a literacy night Thursday, Oct. 17, for school families to provide them program information and teach parents how to make reading fun for their children.

Operated by National Heritage Academies, the charter school is located at 711 32nd St. SE. Vista serves approximately 762 students in kindergarten through 8th grade.

School officials say the evening will provide information on the school’s Title I program, tips for reading at home, and specifics ways parents can help their student improve their reading skills.

Title I is a federal program that provides financial assistance to schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state.

Family Literacy Night is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
