Middle School Students Learn from Professionals

River City Scholar Student Council put together the Second Annual River City Career Day on May 25 with several professionals from the community.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m., 17 different professionals spoke to middle school classes about how they chose their profession, what a typical day looks like, and answered questions.

Each speaker held a short activity that represented their profession.

Leon Hendrix, a weekend anchor at Wood TV 8 in Grand Rapids, Mich., had students read from his laptop as if it was a teleprompter. The students learned how difficult it was to read and make it interesting at the same time.

Some of the professionals included an architect, an attorney,  a police sergeant,  an author, a comedian, a GVSU professor, a salon owner and a politician.

The students did a great job organizing the event!
